Taiwan Trip 2011 - Day 1

09:41

Am finally posting up my Day 1 in Taiwan!!!
Not much to post about Day 1.

Met my classmates at the Budget Terminal for our flight to Taiwan via Tiger. Seriously speaking, I didn't had a good impression of Tiger, but because this was our graduation trip, so I agreed to take Tiger with my classmates to Taiwan to save money.

Anyway, our flight was at 3.45pm, so we met at about 1.45pm at the Budget Terminal. Had never been to the Budget Terminal before as I rarely take budget flights out of Singapore. More like I mostly only travel to Japan via Delta Airlines. Hahaha!!

My Dad sent me down to the Budget Airport and I was kind of 'surprised'. More like it wasn't what I had expected. Hahaha. Okie, shall not say it out.

After meeting them, some of us hadn't had our lunch, so we took a quick bite before doing the checking in. My luggage was the 2nd smallest but the 3rd heaviest among all the 4 luggages. Funny right?! Maybe its because I placed one backpack and one hand carry bag inside. My luggage weight was about 10.6kg.

After doing the check-in, we were still quite early, so we went to Macs to slack.
Before going in, we decided to take a group photo to commermorate

After checking in, we went to the immigration part. Everything was okie until the part where they checked your body and then scan your bags. The part on checking body made me uneasy. Its like they anyhow touch here and there. >.<

My two friends had to do a further check by taking of their shoes which I have no idea why they had to do that. Heard from the officer saying that its a random check.

Once done, we went to duty free to compare pricing first, while I headed to the money changer to change an extra $100SGD in case I do not have enough to spend. I brought some SGD with me though. We took quite some time before boarding up the plane.

Looks abit chui to me. Hahaha, but no choice. Its budget afterall.

The flight was around 4hours and we reached earlier than expected. We reached before 8 and by the time we do the check out its already 8 plus, so we quickly hurried off to meet another friend who took Cathay Airlines. We also bought the bus tickets to Taoyuan HSR Station, as we were taking the HSR down from Taoyuan to Taipei Main Station, and then using the MRT to Ximending.

Bus tickets from the Airport to Taoyuan Station costs 30NTD, which is SGD$1++

Then we quickly hurried to take the HSR down, as we only had like a few minutes to board up the train when we went to buy the tickets.

Inside the HSR!

Once we reached Taipei Main Station, we went to buy the tickets for the train to Hualien the next day. The earliest and fastest train we could find was the 6.30am train, which means we need to reach the train station by 6.30am. We had to take that train as we had gotten someone to drive us around in Hualien, and bring us around.

Each ticket costs about NTD$670++ which is a return ticket. Then we took the MRT down to Ximending, which is one stop away from Taipei Main Station.

We asked for directions on how to get our hotel as it was our first time in Taiwan. Once we got out of the station, it was super cooling!! Its about 25 degrees, which is very cooling for me. And there were strong winds blowing too!

Ximending Station!!

That is PartyWorld in Taipei. Super big! One whole building by itself!!

Then we slowly made our way to our hotel via the detour route with some Taiwanese to guide us. :D
I won't say the hotel is far unless you don't know the short cut to there. There is a short cut to the hotel from Ximending Station, which I realised it after walking it through once. Takes less than 10 mins to walk back from the Station.

We quickly do a check-in and left our stuff in the hotel as most of us were hungry after that 4 hour flight with no food at all. We also met up with Jasmine's friend who was already in Taiwan having his holidays. They warn us of a possible typhoon that is coming to Taiwan. (which didn't really come as we were on the other side of Taiwan when it passed by)

Then we decided to have those roadside stalls for our dinner!

FYI,all of these are illegal hawkers, which means when the police comes, they have to run asap!

And we did witness one, which left me stunned! Somemore, my friend had paid for the food. So I quickly asked him to chase after them to where they stop. Luckily they only ran like 100m away from where the police cannot see them. More like the police also don't care coz he only pretend not to see. Hahaha!!! Very slack right?!

We had alot of food such as the salted chicken, grilled quail eggs, smelly tofu and the grilled hotdog with a bun wrapping it.
The smelly tofu isn't the real smelly tofu. Don't really like it. Hahaha!!

The smelly tofu stall.

The salted chicken stall!! They always have long queue every night and its really popular!! Super nice too!!

We even had 2 rounds of this!! Super awesome!
P.S. This was the stall that me and friend chased after when the police came. LOL!!

Looks super yummy right?!

Then after that, we realised it was quite late and we had to wake up at 5 to get ready to reach the Taipei Main Station by 6.30am.

On ourway back, we also went to 7-11, which the Taiwanese all called it 'Seven' for short. We bought some drinks like Nacchan, which was cheap there!
We bought 3 bottles to get a free shopping bag. xD

I bought the honey lemon drink, which was very sweet for me! And I took like 2 days to finish it. LOL!!

(Me, Michelle and Wilfred)

On our way back, we also found 50 Lan, which I always call it 50 Arashi!!

Heard it was KOI in Taiwan, but apparently it was NOT. We found the real KOI a few days later!

Then we head back to the hotel to rest. As we only had wifi access in the lobby the rest of them stayed in the lobby to use wi-fi while I head back to rest.

The girls came back abit later when I was almost done. We slept pretty late and had to wake up at 5am (4.30am for me)

That is for Day 1!
